The Kano government has approved over ₦3 billion for the expansion and rehabilitation of road networks around Singer Market to improve access and boost commercial activities.

This was announced in a statement by Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday. This followed a visit by the governor  to the market to sympathise with traders whose shops were recently destroyed by fire.

The governor expressed concern over the losses and assured the victims of the state government’s support. He directed the immediate expansion and rehabilitation of roads within and around the market.

“The project, valued at about ₦3 billion, would cover key access roads close to the market,” he said.

Mr Yusuf also announced a ₦100 million relief package for traders affected by the fire, describing it as a gesture to cushion the impact of the losses. He pledged to provide solar lights at the market as part of plans to modernise major markets in Kano.

He ordered the contractors handling the road projects to mobilise to site and commence work within 10 days.

Leaders and elders of the market thanked the governor for the visit and interventions, describing them as timely and compassionate.
