The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill, endorsing a total expenditure of N1.477 trillion after extensive legislative scrutiny.

The budget was passed following its second reading and deliberations in the Committee of the Whole presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

The approval came weeks after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented the budget proposal to the lawmakers, outlining his administration’s fiscal priorities for the 2026 financial year.

A defining feature of the budget is its strong emphasis on infrastructure and development, with 68 per cent, amounting to N934.6bn earmarked for capital expenditure, while 32 per cent, or N433.4bn, is allocated to recurrent spending.

With legislative approval secured, the bill will now be transmitted to the governor for assent in line with constitutional provisions.

Meanwhile, the assembly observed a solemn valedictory session in honour of two of its members, Aminu Sa’ad (Ungogo) and Sarki Aliyu Daneji (Kano Municipal), who died while in active service on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

Describing their passing as a profound loss, Falgore said the deaths of the lawmakers, occurring just hours apart, deeply affected the assembly and the wider Kano community.

He paid tributes to the late legislators as committed representatives who devoted their time and energy to advancing the welfare of their constituents and strengthening democratic governance.

The speaker extended condolences to Governor Yusuf, former governor and National Leader of NNPP, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the families of the deceased and the people of Kano State, assuring that the legacies and services of the fallen lawmakers would remain enduring part of the assembly’s history.
