A chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Magaji Mato, SAN, has said that there will be no problem about meeting the deadline as provided by the Electoral Act should Rabiu Kwankwaso decide to move to another party.
According to him, the NNPP and people in Kwankwaso’s camp are not sleeping over issues concerning the Electoral Act as it is becoming clear that Kwankwaso and others might leave the NNPP for another party.
Speaking on Arise News on Tuesday morning, Mato, a chieftain of the NNPP, was asked whether Kwankwaso may not be going against the Electoral Act 2026 if he leaves the NNPP, where he has already done his electronic registration, for another party where he would be required to so again.
This would mean that his name would appear on two party registers.
In response, Mato said that everything is being taken care of regarding a possible defection to another party.
“What will be done is clear. As soon as he defects to any political party, maybe any other political party, as the case may be, he will definitely resign his position within the space as allowed by the new Electoral Act, and then register his name in the new political party,” Mato said.
“We are working on that. We are not really sleeping, even though they have put us on our toes. But we are not sleeping.
“We will make sure that we are equal to the task and will meet up with all the deadlines and ensure that the right thing is done so that people will freely choose who their leaders will become in 2027.”
