Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to foster unity among political leaders in the state, warning against what he described as do-or-die politics.

The governor made the remarks during the second special prayer session and Qur’anic recitation held at the Government House, Kano, where 4,444 reciters gathered on Saturday.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Tofa, Yusuf said the recent collective devotion to Almighty God for unity, peace and prosperity in the state was already yielding positive outcomes.

The statement read, “Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said that the recent collective devotion to Almighty God for unity, peace, and prosperity in Kano State is already yielding positive results.”

Yusuf cited the attendance of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, at state programmes as evidence of what he described as growing harmony among political actors in Kano.

“The Governor cited the attendance of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, at state programmes as a clear sign of the growing harmony among political leaders in the state,” the statement added.

The governor also expressed optimism that the lingering Kano Emirate tussle would be resolved peacefully.

“He expressed confidence that, following the fervent prayers offered by the reciters, the Kano Emirate tussle would soon be resolved amicably in a way that would satisfy all parties involved,” the statement said.

Reaffirming his commitment to political reconciliation, Yusuf pledged to unite politicians across divides and urged them to shun bitterness.

“The Governor pledged to do everything within his power to unite Kano politicians, urging them to avoid do-or-die politics and instead embrace mutual respect and understanding,” Dawakin Tofa stated.

Yusuf further reiterated his administration’s stance against thuggery, describing youths engaged in such acts as “sons of the soil” who should be contributing meaningfully to the state’s development.

“Governor Yusuf also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating thuggery in the state, lamenting that youths involved in such acts are sons of the soil who should be contributing positively to Kano’s development,” the statement noted.

He assured residents that his government would continue to implement projects with direct impact on their lives and commended the Qur’anic reciters for their prayers for the peace and stability of Kano.

In his remarks, Barau Jibrin praised the governor’s initiative, urging other states to emulate Kano’s unity prayer programme.

“He urged other states across the country to emulate Kano by organizing similar prayer sessions to promote lasting peace and national cohesion,” the statement added.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, also called on residents to remain steadfast in prayers for the continued progress of Kano State and the country.
