FGC Kano Alumni Submit Petition to Tinubu Over Alleged Secret Land Swap Deal

The Federal Government College (FGC) Kano Old Students Association (FGCKOSA) has filed a formal petition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, raising concerns over what it described as an attempt to seize the school’s campus for private development.

The complaint, co-signed by the group’s International President, Shoyinka Shodunke, and other prominent members, was also addressed to key government officials, including the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Education, and anti-corruption agencies such as the ICPC and EFCC.

Shodunke told Kano Times that the group became aware of plans by the Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with Pluck Global Company Ltd., to undertake land clearance and construction on the school premises—including sports fields, a mosque, and other essential facilities—without proper consultation with stakeholders.

“The school grounds are being taken over without consultation,” Shodunke said. “Efforts should focus on enhancing FGC Kano’s stature, not reducing it. FGCKOSA has spent over 30 years investing billions of naira in the school’s development through our foundation, without expecting any financial profit. Now, we face this alarming situation, and we will not accept it. We will do everything possible to stop this attempt.”

The petition was signed by other notable figures, including Sheikh Bashir Umar Aliyu, chairman of the National Supreme Sharia Council; Sheikh Rabiu Ishyaku Rabiu, head of the IRS Group of Companies; Engr. Suleiman Adamu, Galadiman Kazure; Alhaji Nasser Ahmed Dan Darman Lokoja; and Abdul Samaad Rabiu, chairman of the BUA Group of Companies.

Copies of the petition were also sent to law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, as FGCKOSA emphasized that its actions are peaceful and aimed at protecting the school’s interests.

According to invitation letters obtained by Kano Times, the campus project’s inauguration was scheduled for Monday, with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the chief guest. State Commissioner of Lands, Abduljabbar Garko, was listed as the main speaker, while APC elder Mohammed Jamu Yusuf was also expected to deliver a speech.

FGCKOSA insists that any development within the school grounds should align with the institution’s educational objectives and long-term growth, rather than compromise its legacy.
