Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on parents and guardians to use the Eid-el-Fitr period to guide and mentor their children.

This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Tuesday.

The Governor urged them to instill values that will make the younger generation law-abiding and responsible citizens.

He made the call during the traditional Sallah homage held at the Government House, Kano.

Represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, the Governor stressed that discipline and respect among the youth are critical to the state’s long-term stability and progress.

Governor Yusuf also appealed to the people of Kano to uphold tolerance and mutual respect.

He noted that peaceful coexistence, regardless of differences, remains essential for sustainable development.

The Governor commended residents for their peaceful conduct.

He said their commitment to law and order continues to serve as a strong foundation for development and the preservation of Kano’s cultural heritage.

In his remarks, the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, described the Sallah homage as an age-long tradition observed after Ramadan.

He thanked the Governor for ongoing development projects in the emirate.

The Emir specifically acknowledged interventions in water supply and the renovation of the Pastoralist Islamiyya School.

He, however, appealed for enhanced security operations to safeguard forest areas and protect rural communities.

Speaking on the history of the emirate, the Falakin Rano, Wali Ado Rano, said the Rano Emirate dates back to the reign of Emir Raunau Dan Yakubu.

He noted that the current Emir is the 19th ruler of the emirate.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani said Kano’s history cannot be complete without the contributions of the Rano Emirate.

In a goodwill message, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Tajuddeen Othman, appreciated the Emir for his continued support for government policies.

He spoke on behalf of the Local Government Council Chairmen.
