Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday commissioned 40 refurbished vehicles belonging to the state-owned transport company as part of efforts to revitalise public transportation in the state.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Government House, was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
Speaking at the event, the governor said the rehabilitation of the vehicles was in line with his administration’s resolve to reposition public infrastructure and improve mobility across Kano.
“The rehabilitation of the vehicles forms part of our broader agenda to strengthen public infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and ease transportation challenges faced by residents,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.
He added that his administration was committed to restoring the efficiency of state-owned enterprises through improved management structures and proper maintenance of public assets.
“Our administration remains committed to restoring the efficiency and dignity of state-owned enterprises through improved management structures, proper maintenance of public assets, and job creation initiatives,” the governor stated.
Yusuf emphasised the critical role of transportation in economic growth, urging staff members of the transport company to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicles and to discharge their duties with integrity and professionalism.
He further assured residents that his government would continue to invest in key sectors to drive sustainable development and improve the welfare of the people.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the State Transport Company, Kano Line, Alhaji Sa’idu Abdullahi, commended the governor for his support in repositioning the company.
He noted that the initiative would significantly enhance operations and boost the transportation sector in the state.
Abdullahi added that the company currently operates across 24 states and some West African countries, disclosing that plans were underway to expand its coverage.
