The Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) on Sunday flagged off its 2026 Ramadan Fair at the Trade Fair Complex, Kano, urging traders to maintain fairness and moderate pricing during the holy month.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Kano State Government through the Ministry of Commerce and Investment and the Kano Markets Chairman Forum Association, drew government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders and business stakeholders.
In a statement signed by its Director-General, Tijjani Abdullahi Sarki, KACCIMA said the fair was designed to ease the burden on residents by making essential commodities available at affordable prices, while also strengthening Small and Medium Enterprises.
Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Goni Shehu Wada Sagagi, described the initiative as “a timely and deeply humane intervention” amid prevailing economic challenges.
“The true essence of Ramadan is not only in fasting but in demonstrating kindness, honesty and social responsibility. Let our markets reflect these noble values,” Sagagi said.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commended KACCIMA President, Amb. Usman Hassan Darma, for repositioning the Chamber and restoring public confidence through impactful programmes like the Ramadan Fair.
Also speaking, the Danmalikin Kano and District Head of Rimingado, Dr Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, who represented the Emir of Kano, urged traders to uphold integrity, warning that dishonest gains diminish both spiritual and social value.
In a lecture, Sheikh Kamalu Inuwa, Chief Imam of Hidaya Friday Mosque, Gandu Layout, cautioned against cheating, hoarding and other sharp practices.
“Trade in what is halal, deal with sincerity, and remember that every transaction is accountable before Allah,” he said.
In his welcome address, Darma reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to ethical commerce and consumer protection, describing the fair as both an economic intervention and a moral responsibility.
The 2026 Ramadan Fair will run throughout the Ramadan period, offering food items, household goods and locally manufactured products at competitive prices.
