Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has taken strict disciplinary action against staff at Kabuga Primary Health Centre (PHC) following reports of chronic absenteeism and poor punctuality, a development aimed at improving healthcare service delivery in the state.
The Board’s Director General, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, conducted an unscheduled supervisory visit to the facility on Monday, March 23, 2026, as part of efforts to enhance accountability and ensure efficiency in primary healthcare operations.
According to a statement signed by Sa’adatu Suleiman, Public Relations Officer of KSPHCMB, Professor Ibrahim expressed serious concern over staff laxity, stressing that it was negatively impacting the quality of healthcare provided to residents.
He stated, “Our primary healthcare facilities must operate with discipline and commitment. Staff absenteeism and laxity undermine our mandate to provide quality healthcare to the people of Kano State.”
In a decisive move, the DG relieved the facility’s deputy officer in-charge of her duties and appointed Khadija T. Musa, described as a “more punctual and committed staff,” as her replacement.
The statement further revealed that the Routine Immunization (RI) Unit was restructured due to lapses in performance, with Maimuna Adnan Abdulhamid appointed as the officer in-charge to strengthen immunization services.
Other staff members reportedly received warning letters for failing to report to duty on time. Professor Ibrahim reiterated the Board’s zero-tolerance policy, emphasizing that “discipline, dedication, and professionalism are non-negotiable in delivering primary healthcare services to our people.”
The visit forms part of ongoing measures by KSPHCMB to improve efficiency, accountability, and service delivery across the state’s primary healthcare facilities.
