Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a suspected drug trafficker who used a fake pregnancy to conceal illicit substances.

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Babafemi said a 35-year-old businesswoman, Rabi Muhammad, was intercepted at the Seme border while attempting to cross into Cotonou, Benin Republic.

According to him, officers became suspicious after noticing her protruding stomach.

“A full body search, however, revealed the absurd: her pregnancy was fake, and her baby bump was designed with a pink-coloured calabash used to conceal 3,200 capsules of tramadol, which she had tied around her stomach and was taking to Cotonou to sell,” the statement read.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport intercepted a 41-year-old Ivorian, Michael Gohouri, during clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Milan via Addis Ababa.

The agency said a body scan confirmed the ingestion of illicit substances.

“As a result, he was placed under observation, during which he excreted 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kilograms,” Babafemi said, adding that the suspect was to be paid €5,000 upon the successful delivery of the drugs in Milan.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA also arrested the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Trans Fortress Global Resources, Kolapo Oladapo Raji, at his residence in Ikate, Lekki, Lagos.

Babafemi said Raji had been on the agency’s watchlist since 2025.

“A search of his residence led to the recovery of four large bags containing parcels of Canadian Loud, with a total weight of 89.20kg,” the statement added, noting that the suspect allegedly admitted to financing drug consignments before establishing his own distribution network.
