The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused the state government of targeting its members in what it described as a political witch-hunt.

In a statement issued by the NNPP Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, the party alleged actions of the government were undemocratic and unwarranted.

The party alleged that the state government, which it said was formed on the NNPP platform before abandoning the party, had begun retracting Hajj seats earlier allocated to some of its members, including former commissioners, advisers and party leaders.

According to Karaye, the affected individuals, as citizens of Kano State, are entitled to such privileges.

The party also accused the government of harassing and intimidating former political office holders to return official vehicles allocated to them during their tenure, describing the vehicles as part of their consolidated benefits while in service.

The NNPP urged the state government to desist from actions it said could undermine democratic principles, adding that politics should be conducted with decorum and mutual respect.

It further called on the authorities to respect the constitutional right to freedom of association, warning that political offices are not permanent.
