A Pan-Political Group, Public Enlightenment Movement (PEM) has commenced the distribution of 50kg bags of rice to over 1,500 beneficiaries across Kano State as part of its Ramadan relief initiative.
The National Coordinator of PEM, Mr Nuhu Abdullahi-Balarabe, disclosed this during the 2026 Ramadan distribution exercise on Sunday in Kano.
He said the intervention was aimed at supporting vulnerable households and easing food expenses during the fasting period, particularly at a time when many families were facing high living costs.
Abdullahi-Balarabe explained that the beneficiaries included Kannywood members, social media influencers and the media who had supported the movement’s activities, as well as orphans and other vulnerables.
According to him, no fewer than 30 journalists will benefit from the initiative, with more than 60 bags of 50kg rice earmarked specifically for media practitioners.
He said the allocation represented an increase from a previous intervention in which 43 bags of rice were distributed to journalists in appreciation of their professional support and coverage of the movement’s programmes.
“We have been carrying out this gesture for quite a while. We are distributing 50kg rice and cash to our Kannywood members and vulnerable people” he said.
Abdullahi-Balarabe stated that PEM was established to promote awareness of ongoing infrastructure and development projects of President Bola Tinubu across Northern Nigeria.
He listed some of the projects to include the Sokoto–Badagry Highway, the Kano–Kaduna–Abuja Expressway and the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline.
He called on the residents of Northern Nigeria to continue praying for the President for good health and success, and for the continuation of democratic dividends.
The coordinator added that PEM remained committed to community enlightenment, social support initiatives and strengthening collaboration between the media and grassroots communities.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a Kannywood actress, Hajiya Hajara Usman, commended President Tinubu and PEM for the gesture, describing it as timely, especially when many people struggle to afford essential commodities.
