The Nigeria Police Force Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano has summoned Bello Ado Bayero, the District Head of Tarauni and son of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, for questioning over his alleged involvement in a N70 million land fraud.
The invitation follows intensified investigations into what police sources describe as a “coordinated land scam network” that reportedly defrauded a Kano-based businessman.
Yahaya Mohammed Uba, alleged mastermind of the scheme, is already in custody at the Zone 1 Police Headquarters.
DSP Husseini Abdullahi, spokesperson for the command, confirmed that all individuals named in the petition, including Bello Ado Bayero, have been invited for questioning.
“I can assure you that the Investigating Police Officer is highly professional and committed to justice. The CID head and AIG are fully involved, as matters of this nature are treated with utmost seriousness,” Abdullahi said.
Preliminary investigations revealed financial transfers totalling N60 million from Uba’s account into an account allegedly linked to Bello Ado Bayero. The police petition lists Bello Ado Bayero, Yahaya Mohammed Uba, Salisu Shuaibu, and an unnamed Kano State Land Registry staffer as members of the alleged syndicate.
According to the petition, businessman Alhaji Bashir Mohammed was persuaded to purchase a plot in Darmanawa, Tarauni LGA, for N70 million. On February 5, 2026, Uba allegedly sent his GTBank account details via WhatsApp, claiming ownership of the land. Payment was made the following day, and a document-signing meeting was scheduled.
Investigators say Uba later admitted the land belonged to Bello Ado Bayero and presented forged documents. The property is also under litigation at the Federal High Court involving Shuaibu Salisu and Mahmoud Muhammed.
The businessman reportedly demanded a refund from the district head, who allegedly failed to return the funds, prompting the police complaint. Financial records are now under close examination as the investigation continues.
