The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of three persons in a road crash that occurred in the early hours of Monday on the Zaria-Kano expressway after Imawa U-turn.
The sector commander, Idris Mohammed-Lawal, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
The statement said, “We received a call at about 5:55 a.m. and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at 6:01 a.m., recording a response time of six minutes.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the crash involved a commercial vehicle, a DAF XF truck with registration number FKA 603 XA.
“The incident was a lone crash caused by loss of control by the driver, which resulted in a collision with a parked trailer along the dual carriageway. Three adult males were involved in the crash, and unfortunately, all of them lost their lives as a result of the accident.”
The statement said FRSC operatives evacuated the victims and deposited the corpses at Kura General Hospital.
Mr Mohammed-Lawal warned motorists, particularly heavy-duty truck operators, to always exercise caution while driving.
He stressed the need for motorists to always maintain a safe speed, ensure proper control of their vehicles and avoid fatigue, especially during the early hours of the day.
The sector commander also advised motorists to avoid indiscriminate parking on highways, as such parking poses a serious danger to other road users.
He sympathised with the families of the deceased and urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies on the nation’s highways.
