The Kano State Government has called on the Yoruba community resident in the state to collaborate with authorities in strengthening security and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made the appeal on Thursday during a meeting with leaders of the Yoruba community under the aegis of South-Western states residents in Kano, led by the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Ambassador Murtala Alimi Otisese.

The meeting, according to Waiya, was part of an ongoing series of stakeholder engagements with groups from the six geopolitical zones aimed at mobilising support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s efforts to restore peace and address security challenges in the state.

He said the engagement was designed to create opportunities for the government to work closely with communities and organisations in safeguarding Kano against all forms of security threats.

Waiya expressed confidence that the Yoruba community, given its long-standing relationship with the people of Kano, would support the initiative, noting that improved security would enable the government to continue implementing development projects and policies that enhance the living standards of residents, regardless of their state of origin.

“Without adequate security and harmonious relationships, nothing meaningful can be achieved. Security is a collective responsibility, and all hands must be on deck,” he said.

The commissioner assured the community of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, while also highlighting ongoing and planned projects in Sabon Gari, including the reconstruction of New Road, Sarkin Yaki Road and Zungeru Road.

In his response, the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Ambassador Otisese, commended Governor Yusuf’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and non-discriminatory.

He pledged the Yoruba community’s full support for the government’s security initiatives and promised to convene a stakeholders’ meeting within the community to strategise on effective ways to contribute to the success of the programme.

The meeting was coordinated by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs as part of its public enlightenment and stakeholder outreach activities.
