The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media Monitoring and Innovation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Hon. Ramadan Yusuf, has downplayed suggestions that the governor’s resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and subsequent alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) amounts to a betrayal of the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking during an interview with DCL Hausa, Hon. Ramadan described the development as a political realignment undertaken in the broader interest of Kano State, with a focus on sustaining and accelerating the administration’s development agenda.
According to him, Governor Yusuf and other supporters of Kwankwasiyya movement, have over the years, gained valuable political knowledge, insight and experience through their association with Senator Kwankwaso, whom he acknowledged as a long-standing political mentor and leader.
“There is no doubt that we have learned a great deal about politics from our father and leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over the years. This is a time to apply that knowledge in our own way, guided by what we believe will best serve the people of Kano,” he said.
Honourable Ramadan recalled that since the advent of the Fourth Republic in 1999, Senator Kwankwaso has been associated with several political platforms in pursuit of his political objectives, noting that such transitions are not uncommon in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
He further highlighted that since assuming office in 2023, Governor Yusuf has remained focused on delivering on his campaign promises across key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and the provision of social amenities.
According to him, the current political shift is aimed at consolidating the gains recorded so far and creating broader opportunities to attract both human and capital investment for the overall benefit of the state.
“When I was appointed, I pledged allegiance to support the governor in achieving the vision of his administration, which is centered on improving the living conditions of the people. The governor has continued to demonstrate strong commitment to this goal through his tireless efforts,” he stated.
Hon. Ramadan reiterated that Governor Yusuf’s commitment to development transcends party affiliation, expressing confidence that the governor will continue to prioritize the welfare of Kano citizens regardless of the political platform he operates under.
“A political party is essentially a platform. What matters most is the drive to make a positive impact. I am optimistic that wherever the governor finds himself, he will remain consistent in his efforts to improve the lives of the people,” he added.
