The Kano State Police Command has arrested a wanted suspected gang leader, Sunusi Dawa Kamsusi, popularly known as “Dawa Dan Kamsusi,” along with nine other members of his alleged criminal syndicate for various offences, including armed robbery, theft, and drug trafficking.
The arrest followed a complaint submitted on January 5, 2026, by the Hannu Da Yawa Youth Development Association Bachirawa (HADAYA), raising alarm over increasing criminal activities in Bachirawa, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Zango, Kunture, and surrounding communities.
According to the association, residents had repeatedly reported escalating cases of armed robbery, shop and house break-ins, theft, drug-related crimes, and destruction of vigilante group facilities allegedly carried out by the gang.
The group urged the police to take urgent action to restore peace and security in the affected areas.
Acting on the complaint, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Command’s Anti-Daba Unit to track down and arrest the suspects.
The police subsequently launched intelligence-led operations, which led to the arrest of the alleged gang leader.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that three knives and a suspected charm were recovered from the 26-year-old suspect, a resident of Bachirawa Quarters.
He added that nine other members of the gang were later apprehended through sustained investigative efforts.
During interrogation, the prime suspect reportedly confessed to involvement in multiple criminal activities, including armed robbery, mobile phone snatching, shop and house break-ins, and theft.
The police said about 30 victims have so far come forward with complaints against the suspects.
The command stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police commended officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to community members for their cooperation and support, which contributed to the success of the investigation.
