A fried yam and egg seller, identified as Sulaiman Muhammad, has been killed following an altercation over N200 in Unguwar Medile Turba, Kumbotso local government area of Kano State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when a group of youths reportedly approached the vendor to buy N200 worth of fried yam. According to eyewitness accounts, the customers initially refused to pay and later claimed they had no N200 denomination except a higher naira note.

A witness told journalists that the assailants handed the vendor N1,000 and as he turned to seek ‘change’ from nearby traders, he was attacked and stabbed multiple times.

“He died before he could reach the hospital,” the eyewitness said.

Residents said the victim lost a significant amount of blood during the attack, which caused panic in the neighbourhood.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident, and phone calls placed to the public relations officer of the Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, went unanswered.
