The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance following a strategic engagement between the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, and civil society organisations in the state.

Waiya, who convened the meeting on Thursday, said the engagement was aimed at discussing key issues affecting Kano and strengthening collaboration between the government and non-state actors.

Addressing participants, the commissioner briefed them on ongoing initiatives of the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, stressing that civil society groups play a vital role in governance and policy development.

He said, “Civil society organisations play a critical role in governance and policy development. They remain key partners in promoting sustainable development across Kano.”

Waiya described civil society organisations as an important constituency in the state’s development process, emphasising the need to deepen partnerships and sustain open communication.

“We must build stronger cooperation between government institutions and non-state actors to achieve our development goals,” he added.

Participants at the meeting described the session as interactive and forward-looking, noting that it provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas on policy priorities and strategies to advance development in the state.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both the government and civil society groups to continue working together to promote transparency, accountability and development initiatives in Kano State.
