The Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Persons with Special Needs, Amina Abdullahi-Sani, has called on stakeholders to intensify efforts toward empowering women and girls.
Ms Abdullahi-Sani made the call in a statement on Sunday in Kano to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026. The statement was issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Bintu Nuhu-Yakasai.
She urged community leaders, development partners, and institutions to support initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s development.
The commissioner said the annual celebration serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions of women in building families, communities, and the nation.
She noted that women remain key drivers of social and economic development and deserve greater opportunities to realise their full potential.
Ms Abdullahi-Sani reaffirmed the Ministry of Women Affairs’ commitment to promoting gender equity, protecting the rights of women and children, and creating enabling platforms for them to thrive.
She also commended Governor Abba Yusuf for his continued support toward policies and programmes aimed at empowering women, protecting vulnerable groups, and improving their welfare.
The commissioner further urged families, institutions, and organisations to support initiatives that encourage education, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities for women and girls.
She praised the resilience, strength, and achievements of women and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in all sectors.
“As we celebrate women today, let us renew our collective commitment to building a society where every woman and girl can excel without discrimination or limitation,” she said.
