Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed the strong and enduring relationship between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, describing it as one built on deep historical, religious and economic ties that have continued to grow through sustained cooperation.

Governor Yusuf, who spoke through his Principal Private Secretary, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, made the remark on Sunday in Kano while speaking at an Iftar (breaking of fast) hosted by the Royal Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to him, the longstanding bilateral relationship has been further strengthened by cultural and religious links, particularly with Kano State, which he noted has enjoyed mutually beneficial partnerships with the Kingdom in areas such as religion, education, trade and development cooperation.

He explained that Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have also continued to collaborate on economic initiatives and humanitarian projects aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

The governor cited the recent donation of 1,000 date palm seedlings by the Kingdom for plantation as an example of such cooperation, noting that the initiative would contribute to environmental sustainability, improve nutrition and stimulate economic activities in the state.

Yusuf assured the Saudi authorities of Kano State’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening its working relationship with the Kingdom, while expressing appreciation to the Royal Consulate for hosting the Iftar gathering.

Also speaking at the event, the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Umar Namadi, noted that although Kano hosts the Saudi Consulate, Jigawa State equally benefits from the goodwill and support of the Kingdom.

He commended the Royal Consulate for its generosity and compassion, particularly for consistently organising the annual Iftar gathering that brings together leaders and stakeholders.

In his welcome address, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Kano, Khalil bin Ahmed bin Ali Adamawi, expressed appreciation to the distinguished guests for participating in the Iftar gathering, noting that the event reflects the spirit of Ramadan, which promotes unity, compassion and strengthened bonds among communities.

The event was attended by senior government officials from Kano and Jigawa states, members of the diplomatic community, Islamic scholars (Ulama), heads of security and paramilitary agencies, as well as representatives of the business community.
