The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed in a cement-laden trailer along the Kano–Zaria Road.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari.
According to the statement, the consignment was seized on February 2, 2026, by operatives of the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance.
“The trailer, loaded with Dangote Cement, departed Obajana in Kogi State and was en route to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was intercepted along the Zaria–Kano Road,” the statement read.
It added that the driver of the vehicle had been arrested and was currently in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the NDLEA Kano State Commander, D.Y. Lawal, described the operation as a product of “meticulous intelligence gathering and the unwavering commitment of our officers.”
Lawal said the illicit drugs were hidden within legitimate cargo and were suspected to be meant for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period.
“We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual well-being of our communities,” he said.
The command further stated that in line with directives from the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), it would intensify patrols, strengthen checkpoints and sustain intelligence-driven operations across the state.
It noted that investigations were ongoing to unravel the network behind the shipment, adding that all collaborators and facilitators would be identified and prosecuted.
The agency, however, called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NDLEA office.
“Continued community cooperation is essential to protect citizens and preserve the peace and sanctity of communal and religious observances,” the statement added.
