The Kano State Government has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving N5 billion as an intervention fund for traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market in Kano.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on behalf of the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“I, on behalf of the Kano State Government under the able leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, wish to express our profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for donating the sum of Five Billion Naira (N5 billion) as an intervention fund to support the traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market in Kano,” the statement read.
Waiya said the losses recorded at the market affected many traders, adding that the donation would support efforts to assist the victims and help them resume their businesses.
The commissioner also acknowledged the donation of N3 billion by governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum.
“We also wish to sincerely commend the governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the aegis of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), for their collective donation of the sum of Three Billion Naira (N3 billion) to the victims of the inferno,” he stated.
He said the combined N8 billion support from the Federal Government and the APC governors would provide relief for the affected traders.
“As a government, we remain committed to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilisation of these funds, so that the affected traders can quickly resume their trading activities,” he assured.
The commissioner also prayed for divine reward for President Tinubu and the APC governors and called for measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
