Kano State Government has installed an Artificial Intelligence-powered portable digital X-ray machine at Filin Mushe Primary Healthcare Centre in Gwale Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against Tuberculosis (TB) and improve healthcare delivery in the state.

The installation, carried out in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTP), forms part of a broader initiative that has seen more than 20 portable digital X-ray machines deployed across selected primary healthcare centres in Kano to enhance early TB detection and reduce its spread.

The press release was signed by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, Public Relations Officer, Kano State Ministry of Health, on Thursday, a copy made available to the press in Kano.

Speaking during the event at Filin Mushe PHC, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, said the AI-powered machine represents one of the latest innovations in modern medical technology designed to detect Tuberculosis at an early stage and prevent community transmission.

He noted that Kano currently ranks first in Nigeria in TB case detection and prevention, attributing the achievement to the commitment of healthcare workers and the state government’s sustained investment in health services.

“Kano State is ranked first in Nigeria in TB case detection and prevention due to the dedication and commitment of our healthcare workers.

The government will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure effective healthcare service delivery,” the commissioner said.

Dr. Yusuf added that the sophisticated diagnostic equipment is costly and requires proper monitoring, protection, and maintenance by both health workers and the host community to ensure its long-term functionality.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC) in Gwale, Malam Zahraddeen Umar, commended the state government for installing the advanced diagnostic machine at the Filin Mushe facility.

He assured that the committee would support efforts to ensure the equipment is properly utilized for the benefit of residents in Gwale Local Government Area.

“As a Ward Development Committee, we will do everything within our capacity to ensure the machine functions effectively and serves the people of Gwale Local Government as intended,” Umar said.

He also appealed to the state government to consider absorbing temporary staff currently working at the facility into permanent and pensionable positions to ensure the smooth operation of the centre.

Responding, the commissioner assured that the government would take steps to absorb the temporary staff into the state workforce to strengthen service delivery and sustain operations at the facility.

The installation of the AI-powered diagnostic machine is expected to further boost Kano State’s efforts to eliminate Tuberculosis as a public health threat while improving access to quality primary healthcare services.
