The Bayero University Kano on Tuesday inducted 149 graduates into the medical and dental professions during its 24th MBBS and 10th BDS joint induction ceremony, reaffirming its role in training healthcare professionals for Nigeria.

The newly inducted professionals comprise 131 medical doctors and 18 dental surgeons, marking another milestone in the university’s contribution to strengthening the nation’s healthcare workforce.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Musa, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Amina Mustapha, described the occasion as a significant achievement for both the graduates and the institution.

He urged the new doctors and dentists to uphold the ethics of their professions and remain committed to excellence, compassion and integrity in service to humanity.

“This is only the beginning of your professional journey. There is much ahead of you. Uphold the ethics of your profession and be worthy ambassadors of Bayero University wherever you find yourselves,” he said.

Professor Musa noted that the university has continued to distinguish itself in medical education by producing highly skilled professionals who are making significant contributions in healthcare, academia and research across Nigeria and beyond.

He added that the institution’s growing reputation, reflected in its ranking among Nigeria’s leading universities, underscores its commitment to excellence in teaching, research and community service.

SolaceBase reports that the oath of professional conduct was administered by Professor Fatima Kyari, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Addressing the new inductees, Professor Kyari reminded them of the enormous responsibility that comes with the medical profession, urging them to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism and lifelong learning.

“The pledge you make today is a solemn promise to yourselves, to your patients and to society. You pledge to uphold the honour, ethics and responsibilities of the medical and dental profession,” she said.

She encouraged the graduates to continually update their knowledge, familiarise themselves with the council’s code of conduct and regulatory policies, and remain committed to professional excellence throughout their careers.

In his remarks, the overall best graduating student of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Abubakar Ismail Mohammed, expressed gratitude to God for the achievement.

“To be honest, this would not have been possible without Allah. I feel deeply grateful and excited. This achievement is both an honour and a responsibility,” he said.
