A coalition of former local government chairmen in Kano State has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, while reaffirming their loyalty to Dr. Abdullahi Umar-Ganduje as the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano.

The group, comprising officials who served between 2014 and 2024 under Ganduje’s administration, made their position known during a closed-door meeting with APC stakeholders in Abuja on Monday.

Baffa Takai, former chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, in Kano, who led the delegation, said their support for Tinubu stems from the President’s “track record of transformational leadership and commitment to national development.”

Mr Takai also stressed that the former chairmen remain committed to strengthening the APC in Kano, describing Ganduje as “a unifying figure whose experience and political acumen are crucial for party growth at both the state and national levels.”

The ex-chairmen commended the efforts of the current APC leadership in Kano under Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, saying the party had made significant progress in fostering unity and mobilizing grassroots support.

They urged other party members to join hands in promoting peace, solidarity, and development within the APC.

Speaking on the party’s future, Mr Takai noted, “Our commitment to APC’s ideals goes beyond personal interests. We pledge to work tirelessly to ensure that the party remains strong, united, and victorious in forthcoming elections.”

Political analysts say the endorsement could consolidate Tinubu’s support base in Kano, a key political stronghold in Northern Nigeria, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers also note that the move signals a continued influence of Ganduje in state politics despite stepping down as National Chairman of the APC.

The meeting reportedly concluded with the former chairmen calling on all APC members to put aside internal differences and work collectively for the success of the party in Kano and across the country.
