Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has pledged that his administration will no longer allow public servants to suffer delays in the payment of their lawful benefits.

The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.

According to the statement, the governor made the pledge on Wednesday during the disbursement of severance gratuities, accommodation, and leave allowances to 1,371 former councillors who served between 2021 and 2024.

The event, held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, Kano, marked the final tranche of the payment with a total of ₦8.26bn disbursed to beneficiaries.

“Our goal is simple: never again should those who serve the public be left in uncertainty about what is rightfully theirs,” Yusuf said.

He explained that his administration had introduced reforms aimed at preventing the future accumulation of unpaid entitlements, describing the exercise as part of efforts to restore trust in government.

According to him, settling the backlog of benefits was key to boosting morale among serving public officers and strengthening confidence in state institutions.

“Kano is the only state we can truly call ours. We have no other place to be prouder of than here,” the governor added.

Yusuf urged residents to support his administration in building a fairer and more prosperous state, where the sacrifices of public servants are recognised and rewarded.

He also thanked the people of the state for encouraging transparent, prudent, and compassionate governance.

Several former councillors at the event received instant payment alerts ranging from ₦5m to ₦6m.
