The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women in its ongoing efforts to stop the smuggling of banned items into custodial facilities. The suspects were reportedly caught while attempting to sneak illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.
The incident occurred on December 21, 2025, when the two women—identified as 19-year-old Maryam Ali and 20-year-old Hauwa Musa, both residents of Kano State—were intercepted during routine security checks at the entrance of the facility.
Security personnel discovered suspected illicit drugs in their possession, and preliminary findings indicated that the substances were meant to be delivered to inmates inside the centre.
Their actions violate the regulations of the Nigerian Correctional Service and constitute a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
The two suspects have since been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for continued investigation and appropriate legal procedures.
The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service reaffirmed its dedication to enforcing strict security measures and maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on all illegal activities within and around custodial centres.
The Command also urged the public to comply with all visitation guidelines, warning that any violation will attract legal consequences.
