The Kano State Police Command has concluded security arrangements for the Christmas and New Year festivities, assuring residents of adequate protection of lives and property across the State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the assurance while meeting with operational commanders, including heads of departments, area and tactical commanders, and divisional police officers. The meeting, according to the police, was in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure a “safe, peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration.”

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, CP Bakori ordered “intensified patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations and confidence-building engagements throughout the festive periods.”

The statement added that the command had “put in place adequate security arrangements in liaison with other security agencies to ensure the security of life and property before, during, and after the celebrations.”

CP Bakori further directed all operational commanders to ensure “adequate security at worshipping centres and recreational facilities,” as well as “round-the-clock visibility patrols, effective traffic control for smooth flow of traffic, and widened channels of intelligence gathering.”

As part of the security measures, the police warned residents to avoid suspicious objects and to promptly report any suspicious persons or movements. The command also cautioned against reckless driving, stating that “underaged children and unlicensed persons are not allowed to operate motor vehicles, tricycles, or motorcycles,” while adding that over-speeding and dangerous driving would not be tolerated.

The police announced a total ban on fireworks and prohibited “all forms of unauthorised horse riding,” warning that any act capable of causing a breach of peace would be dealt with according to the law.

The commissioner appreciated residents for their cooperation and urged them to continue supporting the police by reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
