Six aspirants seeking the Kano Central senatorial ticket in APC have stepped down in support of former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, following a reconciliation meeting led by Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Kano Lodge in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Usman Bala said they had honourably stepped down for Ibrahim Shekarau to ensure peace and unity within the party.

He stated that the aspirants unanimously agreed with the decision reached during the reconciliation meeting led by Abba Kabir Yusuf and pledged their maximum support toward ensuring the success of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Our sources reports that the aspirants who withdrew from the race are Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas, Abdulfatah Zango and Shehu Isah Direba.

The development came after weeks of disagreement among stakeholders over the emergence of Shekarau as a consensus candidate for the Kano Central senatorial seat.

Earlier, the aspirants had openly rejected the former governor’s emergence as the consensus candidate, insisting on a level playing field ahead of the party’s primary election.

However, sources at the meeting said Governor Abba’s intervention helped calm tensions and unite the aspirants, leading to their decision to support Shekarau ahead of the 2027 elections.
