In a significant move to implement the Declaration of State of Emergency on Education, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has taken a bold step towards enhancing the quality of education in the state. The governor recently distributed instructional materials to Basic and Post-Basic schools in the state, marking a crucial milestone in the government’s efforts to improve the education sector.

The distribution ceremony, held at the Open Arena, Government House, Kano, was attended by key stakeholders in the education sector. Governor Yusuf emphasized that the provision of teaching aids aims to equip teachers to deliver exceptional education and foster a love of learning among students. The resources provided will enhance the teaching-learning experience, making education more engaging, interactive, and effective.

The governor has also directed the Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to recruit teaching staff on a quarterly basis to fill vacancies arising from retirements, resignations, or deaths. This move is expected to address the huge manpower vacuum in the education sector.

Governor Yusuf urged proprietors of private and voluntary schools to rise to the challenges in education by ensuring best practices and adherence to the curriculum.

A Comprehensive Package
The instructional materials distributed include:

  • 1,600,000 pieces of textbooks for Science and Technology, Computer Science, literacy, and numeracy
  • Exercise books, pencils, pens, sharpeners, rulers, and whiteboard markers
  • School records, such as attendance registers, admission registers, time-books, and staff movement books
  • Sporting materials and equipment, including jersey sets, handballs, volleyballs, table tennis courts, badminton facilities, and football items
  • 2,600 pieces of computers and laboratory equipment for 200 selected Senior Secondary Schools
  • 100 inverters along with 35 solar panels each

Recognizing Partners
The distribution ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to international donor partners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and civil society organizations (CSOs) that have supported the state government in the education sector.

Governor Yusuf’s initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to providing exceptional education to the children of Kano State. As the state moves forward, it is expected that this initiative will have a lasting impact on the education sector, empowering teachers and enriching students.
