APC faces growing internal crisis in Kano as stakeholders meet separately

Table of Content

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano Municipal Local Government has been thrown into a deeper crisis following the conduct of parallel stakeholders’ meetings by two factions within the party.

The meetings, which were originally planned to promote unity and strengthen internal cohesion, were instead held at different venues, reflecting growing divisions and rivalry among party leaders.

One of the meetings, aligned with the faction loyal to former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and was attended by the APC Chairman of Kano Municipal, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Mai Fata Sharada, Muntari Ishaq Yakasai, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, Engr. Sagir Koki, Hon. Salim Hashim Gwangwazo, Nura Hussain, Hon. Nabil Sarki Daneji, Hon. Ibrahim Kankarofi, Hon. Kabiru Labour, Alhaji Kabiru Rabi’u, Malam Garba Yusuf Abubakar, Hon. Aliko Shuaibu Mukhtar, as well as some commissioners and special advisers. Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada was said to have sent his apologies.

Meanwhile, another meeting loyal to Senator Barau I. Jibrin was held at Sultanate Suite under the leadership of Hon. Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo and Malam Muhammad Ibrahim Kankarofi.

Those in attendance include Hon. Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo (Alhajin Baba) and Malam Ibrahim Kankarofi, Hamza Darma, Alhaji Faruq Iya, Fa’izu Alfindiki, Hon. Dan Bello Aminu, Uba Zubairu Yakasai, Engr. Garba Ahmed Kofar Wambai, Hajiya Rabi Aminu Me-Mai, Hon. Nasiru Hanga, Hon. Mu’azzam Marafa, Alhaji Nasiru Uwe, Alhaji Dauda Raula, and Hon. Na Balalu Mai Turare, among others

The meetings reportedly discussed strategies and passed resolutions on the future of the party.

The leadership crisis within the APC in Kano Municipal predates the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the party, as disagreements have long existed between supporters of Ganduje and those loyal to Senator Barau.

Our sources had reported that rival camps within the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed during a unity stakeholders’ meeting in the Dawakin-Tofa/Tofa/Rimingado federal constituency of Kano State, as supporters of key political figures engaged in heated exchanges that disrupted the gathering aimed at strengthening party cohesion.

The clash occurred on Saturday during a gathering of key party leaders and members aimed at strengthening unity within the ruling party in the area.

The crisis began after Hajiya Hasiya Aminu, the former NNPP women leader in Dawakin-Tofa, who recently defected to APC, openly challenged the House of Representatives member for the constituency, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.

Her remarks were said to have angered the lawmaker.

Political analysts warn that unless urgent steps are taken to reconcile the factions ahead of the 2027 general elections, the continued division could weaken the party’s chances in the area and provide an opportunity for the opposition to gain political ground.
