Breaking: Former NFF Chairman Ibrahim Galadima Passes Away at 78

The former Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, has died at the age of 78 after a prolonged illness.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Media & Communications Directorate of Kano Pillars FC, describing his passing as a huge loss to Nigerian football.

According to the statement, “The Management, Staff, players and fans of Kano Pillars FC mourn the passing of former Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, who died today, Saturday, 18th April 2026, after a protracted illness.”

Born on February 15, 1948, Galadima was widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Nigerian sports administration, having played key roles in the development and global positioning of Nigerian football.

During his tenure as NFF Chairman between 2002 and 2006, he was credited with major reforms and contributions to football development in the country.

The statement added that “he made significant contributions to the development, organization and international representation of Nigerian football” while serving as NFF Chairman.

Beyond the national stage, Galadima also served as Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, where he was instrumental in promoting sports development at both grassroots and elite levels.

A founding figure of Kano Pillars FC, the club described him as a “revered statesman of the game,” noting that he “laid a solid foundation for the club’s growth into a dominant force in Nigerian football.”

It further stated that “his legacy, leadership, and passion for the game will forever remain part of the club’s rich history.”

His Janazah prayer is scheduled to hold on Sunday, 19th April 2026, at 10:00am at Masallacin Waje, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
