Breaking: Kano Deputy Governor Resigns Amid Rising Political Tensions

Table of Content

The Deputy Governor of Kano State has resigned from office, according to a statement issued by the Kwankwasiyya Movement on Friday.

In the press release signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement said the resignation, though difficult, was taken in the overall interest of the people and to ensure stability in the state’s governance.

The statement explained that recent developments had significantly limited the deputy governor’s ability to fully discharge the responsibilities of his office, making it necessary for the position to function without constraints in the public interest.

It, however, clarified that the decision to step down does not amount to an admission of the allegations leveled against him by the Kano State House of Assembly. The deputy governor, according to the statement, maintains his innocence and insists that his record in office reflects his integrity and dedication to public service.

The movement described the resignation as an act of statesmanship aimed at promoting peace, political maturity, and preventing tensions that could disrupt governance and development in Kano State.

Following his resignation, the deputy governor is expected to focus more on political activities within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly in strengthening its structures and preparing for strategic realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also called on its supporters and residents of Kano State to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to democratic principles.

It added that further details regarding the development would be communicated in due course.
