A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of three residential buildings and an electricity transformer site in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to the Kano State Fire Service, the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at about 11:05 a.m., when the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from a resident, Aminu Bello.

Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, alongside teams from Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations, were immediately deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our personnel found an open space measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, completely engulfed in flames,” the agency said in a statement.

The fire quickly spread to nearby structures, affecting three residential buildings of varying sizes. Witnesses described the situation as intense, with flames consuming parts of the buildings before emergency responders brought the situation under control.

Officials confirmed that the first building, a small residential structure, was severely affected, while the second building, a one storey building suffered extensive damage, particularly on the upper floor.

The third building, also a residential property, was similarly impacted by the blaze.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical spark.

Speaking on the incident, the Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to prioritize safety measures.

“We advise members of the public to take all necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, especially by avoiding unsafe electrical practices and ensuring proper handling of appliances,” he said.

Authorities have not yet reported any casualties, but investigations into the full extent of the damage are ongoing.

The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while calling on residents to remain vigilant and report emergencies promptly.
