Kano Govt Dismisses Reports of Administrative Shutdown

The Kano State Government has dismissed reports claiming that a recent directive by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has grounded public administration in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Tanko Muhammad, the government said the directive was a temporary and precautionary measure taken in line with financial regulations and due process.

“The directive, which temporarily halted the forwarding of files to the governor’s office, was issued at the end of December when the 2024 budget was expiring and the 2025 Appropriation Bill was still before the House of Assembly,” it said.

It further explained that the measure was taken to prevent unauthorized spending and ensure compliance with public finance rules, stressing that no new financial commitments can be approved without a valid appropriation law.

According to the statement, government essential services in sectors such as security, healthcare, education and sanitation have continued without disruption as the state remains committed to effective administration of the state affairs.

Describing the claims of administrative paralysis as misleading, the government said the directive was a lawful and precautionary step to promote fiscal discipline and accountability, assuring the public that further guidance would be issued after ongoing administrative reviews.
