The Kano State Police Command has arrested a three-man syndicate involved in tricycle theft and recovered eight stolen tricycles across the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Kiyawa said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by officers attached to the Kwakwachi Police Division.

According to him, the breakthrough occurred on March 26, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., when police operatives on surveillance patrol along Airport Road in Kano intercepted one Abubakar Sidi of Kunkumi Village, Kaduna State, in possession of a tricycle.

“The suspect, who was riding a tricycle with registration number NSR 85 WD and KAROTA number KMC 1084, could not give a satisfactory account of ownership,” he said.

He explained that the suspect was subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department on the directive of the Commissioner of Police for further investigation.

Kiyawa added that discreet investigation later revealed that the suspect allegedly deceived a tricycle owner along Emir Palace Road and conspired with other members of the syndicate to dispossess the victim of the vehicle.

He further disclosed that two accomplices, identified as Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna, were later arrested.

“Following their arrest, seven additional stolen tricycles were recovered in Babura, Jigawa State, where they had been sold,” he said.

The police spokesman noted that efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate and identify the rightful owners of the recovered tricycles.

He urged tricycle operators and members of the public to remain vigilant, warning against accepting drinks or gifts from strangers.

Kiyawa also advised victims of similar incidents to visit the Police Public Relations Office at the Bompai headquarters or contact the investigating officer for identification and possible recovery of their tricycles.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers for their professionalism and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
