The police command in Kano has arrested a suspected arms dealer, Umar Usman, 35, in Dandinshe Quarters, Dala LGA, for possessing three fabricated AK-47 rifles, an AK-47 empty shell and a vehicle during a raid.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the raid was carried out on May 9. He added that the suspect was a resident of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a.
Mr Kiyawa said the suspect was intercepted inside a Honda Accord with registration number TFA 680 AA.
“A search of the suspect and the vehicle led to the recovery of three fabricated AK-47 rifles, revolver-type firearms, five live cartridges, one AK-47 empty shell, a police identity card suspected to be fake, three sharp jackknives and a pair of jungle desert boots,” he said.
Mr Kiyawa said the suspect confessed to procuring the fabricated rifles from Dutsin-Ma LGA in Katsina.
“He is currently in police custody, and a discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and dismantle the supply network,” he said.
Mr Kiyawa urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to the police to enhance security in Kano.
