The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations conducted in Tarauni and Kumbotso Local Government Areas of the state.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the recoveries were part of the ongoing directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on intelligence-led policing and enhanced visibility patrols.

“These successes underscore the renewed commitment of the command to proactive crime prevention, management and control through enhanced visibility policing, intelligence gathering and community partnership,” the statement said.

In the first case, police said a Toyota Corolla LE, 2004 model, dark ash in colour, with registration number DRA 735AA, was stolen on April 22, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mambolo Street, Zone 2, Wuse, Abuja.

Following credible intelligence, operatives of the command’s Special Intervention Squad launched an operation and recovered the vehicle at Darmarawa Layout, Naibawa, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

“Through coordinated visibility policing and intelligence gathering, the vehicle was recovered at Darmarawa Layout, Naibawa, Tarauni LGA, Kano,” the statement added.

Police said preliminary findings showed the vehicle was parked there by a suspected notorious car thief who is currently on the run.

“Efforts are in top gear to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” the command stated.

In the second incident, an unregistered foreign-used Kia Optima belonging to one Musbahu Baba Muhammad of Railway Quarters was reportedly stolen on April 24, 2026.

The vehicle was said to have been taken from Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu Friday Mosque, Gadon Kaya, along BUK Road.

Following the report, detectives attached to the Sharada Police Division commenced investigations and activated patrol strategies.

The statement said the stolen vehicle was later recovered at about 5:30 a.m. on April 25, 2026, at Ja’en Quarters through collaboration with members of the Zone 5 Ja’en Vigilante Group.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered at about 0530hrs on 25th April 2026 at Ja’en Quarters. The vehicle is now in safe custody,” the statement said.

Police added that investigations were ongoing to arrest those connected with the theft.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended operatives of the Special Intervention Squad and Sharada Division for their swift response and professionalism.

He also praised members of the vigilante group and residents who provided timely information that aided the recoveries.

“This achievement further validates the effectiveness of community policing and visibility policing strategies in crime-fighting,” the commissioner said.

Bakori assured residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to continue reporting suspicious persons and activities to security agencies.
