A nongovernmental organisation, the Dr Dahiru Muhammad Hashim Foundation, on Saturday, empowered 1,426 women and youths in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State with start-up kits and cash support.

Presenting the items in Kano, the foundation’s founder, Dr Dahiru Muhammad-Hashim, said the gesture was aimed at helping beneficiaries become self-reliant and improve their livelihoods.

Our sources reports that Muhammad-Hashim, who is also the Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, said the intervention was part of the foundation’s 2026 Special Empowerment Programme and the launch of the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement Initiative.

The empowerment programme, which took place at Filin Shinge Kurna, featured the distribution of sewing machines, motorcycles, pasta-making machines, grinding machines, and cash support to beneficiaries to help them establish sustainable businesses.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Hashim said the initiative was in line with the grassroots development agenda of the administration of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to him, the government remains committed to building a productive and self-sufficient society where citizens have opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

“This empowerment programme will continue by the grace of God. Those who benefited should ensure they use the items wisely and develop themselves through the businesses,” he said.

Muhammad-Hashim, who also serves as acting Commissioner for Water Resources, pledged to sustain the programme for residents of Gobirawa Ward and Dala LGA.

The commissioner also congratulated Ali Madaki and Lawan Usaini over their emergence as candidates for the House of Representatives and Kano State House of Assembly, respectively.

He said stakeholders in Dala made the right decision by supporting their emergence.

The items distributed included 106 sewing machines, 20 motorcycles, 100 pasta-making machines, and 100 grinding machines, alongside over N20 million in cash grants to beneficiaries.

In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Dala Local Government, Alhaji Dayyabu Ahamed Mai Turare, commended the commissioner for the initiative and urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the items provided.

“Some of you did not have businesses before, but with this empowerment, many of you now have means of livelihood. I urge you not to sell the items but to use them for your benefit,” he said.

He also praised the Kano State Government for what he described as good governance in the state.

One of the beneficiaries, Aisha Sale Bala, expressed gratitude to the commissioner for the support, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.

Another beneficiary, Marakisiya, also thanked the commissioner for the initiative.

The event attracted political stakeholders, community leaders, and dignitaries from across Dala Local Government Area and other parts of the state.
