Gunmen kidnap local government secretary in Kano

Table of Content

Unknown gunmen on Friday night abducted the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area in Kano State, Alhaji Hamza Musa Durba.

The incident occurred late at night when about six armed assailants reportedly stormed his residence in Dinya town, within Durba Ward of Kibiya LGA.

Security sources said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and were heavily armed, although they did not fire any shots during the operation.

A security official in the area, Malam Musa Hussaini Ibrahim, confirmed the abduction, noting that the gunmen executed the operation swiftly and with precision, gaining access to the residence without attracting attention.

Eyewitnesses said members of the victim’s family were present during the attack but were left unharmed, as the assailants focused solely on abducting their target.

Residents described the incident as alarming and unusual, particularly due to the absence of gunfire, and expressed concern over the increasing boldness of criminal elements in rural communities across the state.

Security agencies have since been alerted and have launched a coordinated search operation to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to provide details on the motive behind the abduction, although preliminary indications suggest a possible link to the rising cases of kidnapping for ransom in parts of northern Nigeria.
