Suspected thugs on Monday attacked the popular mobile phone market at Farm Centre in Kano metropolis, causing panic among traders and customers.

Newsmen gathered that the hoodlums stormed the market in broad daylight, assaulting people, stealing smartphones, and wielding sharp weapons to intimidate victims.

The incident reportedly occurred near Yoyo Plaza, a section of the market known for intense phone trading activities.

It was learnt that the assailants, mostly youths, also dispossessed traders, customers, and passersby of mobile phones and other valuables.

An eyewitness told newsmen that, “The attackers came suddenly and started beating people while carrying dangerous weapons. Everyone was running for safety.”

The source added that, “We heard they came from a political gathering close to the market, but we cannot confirm that.”

However, the swift intervention of armed policemen deployed to the area prevented the situation from escalating, as the attackers were immediately dispersed.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no confirmed information on any fatalities, but several persons were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls and text messages as of the time of filing this report.
