The Kano State Government has announced measures for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, warning against attempts to disrupt public peace and law and order.

The directive, signed by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, comes after intelligence indicated efforts by some individuals to create confusion during the festivities.

“While the Government remains fully committed to promoting, protecting, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Kano, it reiterates that it will not compromise its primary constitutional responsibility of maintaining peace, law, and order, as well as safeguarding the lives and property of all residents.”

The statement outlined arrangements for the celebrations, noting that the main Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by His Highness, Sarkin Kano Muhammad Sanusi II, “from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, terminating at Kofar Fatalwa of the Kano Emir’s Palace.”

Meanwhile, the Hawan Nasarawa procession will take place in a modified form but not on horseback, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended for now in the interest of public safety.

All security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and “ensure strict compliance with these directives, and take all necessary lawful measures to prevent any breach of peace before, during, and after the festive period.”

Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies, and to avoid spreading unverified information.

“The Government also appreciates the continued dedication and professionalism of security agencies in ensuring the safety and stability of the State, and reassures the public of its commitment to a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.”

The statement concluded by extending best wishes to all Muslims for a joyful and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr, saying, “Happy Sallah in advance.”
