The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and public welfare, continuing work on key park restoration projects across the metropolis even as residents mark the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

In a statement personally signed on Sunday, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahir M Hashim, said he conducted an extensive supervision tour of four major park construction sites on the second day of Eid, describing the effort as part of the government’s ongoing urban renewal drive.

Hashim said the sites, which were previously converted into commercial spaces, have now been reclaimed by the state and are being redeveloped into green areas and recreational facilities.

He noted that the initiative is aimed at providing safe and modern playgrounds for children and families across Kano.

“These sites, which had unfortunately been diverted into commercial zones in the past, have been successfully recovered and are now being transformed back into vibrant green areas,” he said.

The commissioner added that the project aligns with the vision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf under what he described as the “Green Mandate,” an initiative focused on expanding access to clean and serene public spaces.

According to him, the administration is targeting the delivery of 10 fully functional parks within the metropolis before the upcoming Eid al-Adha, reflecting the governor’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.

Hashim emphasised that the projects are progressing steadily despite the festive period, underscoring the government’s resolve to prioritise environmental development.

He also extended Eid greetings to residents on behalf of the ministry, wishing them a peaceful and joyous celebration while expressing hope that the season would bring unity and prosperity to the state.
