Former media aide to Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano and ex-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has formally left the APC with thousands of his supporters to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued on Monday, Yakasai, who contested the 2023 Kano governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), said his decision followed consultations with political associates, allies, and stakeholders.

Describing his move as a “new journey,” the former PRP gubernatorial candidate indicated a shift in political direction ahead of future engagements.

“I have submitted my resignation from the APC and completed my registration with the ADC,” he said, adding that the decision was not taken lightly but was the outcome of discussions with like-minded individuals.

After the announcement, Yakasai launched a membership drive, urging supporters and interested Nigerians to register with the ADC through an online platform.

His call for registration is likely to increase the ADC’s presence in Kano, particularly among urban youths and politically active citizens.

In the statement, Yakasai said he hopes the party will succeed at all levels and stressed that his actions were aimed at advancing the interests of Kano, the North, and Nigeria
