Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered an investigation into the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from workers’ salaries, reportedly linked to a former Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa.

Yusuf gave the directive on Friday during the 2026 International Workers’ Day celebration held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The governor said the probe would focus on allegations surrounding the former Head of Service.

“Following the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from workers’ salaries by the former Head of Service, I hereby order an investigation into the allegation,” Yusuf said.

He assured workers that anyone found culpable would face appropriate sanctions, adding that any recovered funds would be refunded to the affected workers.

“This government is for you and will work for you. What it needs from you is your support and commitment to duty,” the governor added.

Yusuf also reiterated his administration’s commitment to settling outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees in the state.

According to him, the government has so far paid N32 billion out of the N48 billion inherited from the previous administration, promising to clear the remaining N16 billion before the end of his tenure in 2027.

Earlier, the Kano State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kabir Inuwa, commended the state government for the payment of salaries and retirees’ entitlements.

He, however, urged the governor to address salary disparities between state and local government workers.

Inuwa also called for a thorough investigation into the alleged N1.5 billion salary deductions and the recovery of the funds if the allegations are proven.
