Nine inmates serving various terms at Medium Security Custodial centre in Wudil, Kano, have successfully completed memorisation of the Holy Quran.

The milestone coincided with the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Centre.

The public Relations officer of Kano state command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (CSC) Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, said  some of the inmates had little or no prior knowledge of full Qur’anic recitation when they were brought to the facility, but through dedication, discipline, and structured guidance, they attained full memorization.

“The achievements highlight the service’s sustained commitment to reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates in line with the Correctional Service Act,2019,” said Kofar Nasarawa.

He said over the years, the Wudil Custodial centre has remained a model custodial facility, providing inmates with access to education, vocational training, and moral development programmes.

He also said the  Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, commended the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, for his directives promoting educational and skill acquisition programmes across custodial centres nationwide.

According to him, such initiatives were critical to equipping inmates with the skills necessary for self-reliance and successful reintegration into society.

The Officer-in-Charge of MSCC Wudil, CSC Ibrahim Wada Ibrahim, appreciated the support of the State Command, describing the achievements as a reflection of effective leadership and commitment to inmate development.

The Vice Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, applauded the Command’s efforts in transforming inmates’ lives, noting that such initiatives contribute significantly to repositioning them as responsible members of society.
