Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has provided cash and food assistance to families of 16 hunters who were lynched by a mob in Uromi, Edo State.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Waiya, led a government delegation to Bunkure Local Government Area on Friday, where he presented N300,000 each to the families of the 16 deceased and N200,000 each, along with food items, to 13 survivors.

Mr Waiya said the visit was at the instance of the governor to assess the condition of the affected families and fulfil earlier promises made to them.

According to him, although the governor had earlier pledged support during a previous visit, the assistance was delayed.

“We are here on the directive of Governor Yusuf to look into the well-being of the families and to fulfil the promise made to them.

“We appeal for understanding over the delay, as it was not intentional,” he said.

The commissioner added that the governor remained committed to ensuring that the compensation earlier promised by the Edo State Government would be paid to the victims.

He said bank accounts had already been opened for the families, and payments would be made once the process was completed.

Mr Waiya further stated that the governor would consider additional support, particularly in addressing the educational needs of the victims’ children.

In his remarks, the district head of Bunkure, Aminu Umaru, commended the governor for the gesture, describing him as a compassionate and responsive leader.

Mr Umaru also prayed for Allah’s guidance and success for the governor in his leadership.
