Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the immediate establishment of a Special Task Force to address security threats at motor parks and other strategic public spaces across the state.

The announcement was made in a statement signed and released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, on Sunday.

According to Bature, Yusuf’s decision highlights the administration’s commitment to preventing criminal infiltration and safeguarding Kano, particularly at key entry and exit points in the metropolitan area.

“Motor parks have been identified as high-risk locations due to increased human movement and recent security developments, including the arrest of suspected miscreants at Kofar Ruwa Motor Park.

“The task force will conduct intensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security operations at motor parks and other vulnerable locations.

“Its operations will also extend to ancillary areas such as filling stations and public spaces where transient populations often congregate,” he said.

Yusuf described the initiative as a proactive measure to neutralise threats before they escalate, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and restore public confidence.

He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality and affirmed full support for security agencies in protecting lives and property

Kano has recently seen a spike in insecurity, including bandit attacks in rural areas like Tsanyawa and Shanono local government areas, where residents have faced abductions and assaults.

The state government has also intensified security responses. On December 2, Governor Yusuf led a delegation of security heads to assess Joint Task Force operational bases in affected communities.

He promised enhanced logistics, infrastructure improvements, and community empowerment initiatives to bolster local defences.

Kano State Police Command also enforced a ban on passenger conveyance by motorcycles in nine metropolitan LGAs, including Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo, and Dawakin Kudu.

Additionally, commercial tricycles are restricted from operating between 10 pm. and 6 am., effective from December 1.
