The leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya State Caucus has distanced themselves from reports and public calls suggesting that the leader of the movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, or members of the group are planning to defect to another political party.

The caucus stated this in a communiqué issued after an extensive meeting held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Amana Hall, Kwankwasiyya House, Miller Road, Kano. The communiqué was signed by Magaji Mato Ibrahim, SAN, Rano Caucus Chairman and National Legal Adviser of the NNPP.

According to the resolutions adopted at the meeting, the caucus unanimously rejected what it described as “unauthorised defection narratives,” stressing that such calls neither reflect the ideology nor the operational culture of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement categorically and unequivocally disassociates itself from all public calls, statements or media narratives urging Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso or members of the movement to defect to another political party,” the caucus said.

The caucus further clarified to members, supporters and the general public that the calls were false, misleading, unauthorised and should be completely disregarded.

While noting that some individuals who made such calls might have acted under misinformation or external pressure, the caucus said the movement harboured no grudges against them, but urged members to desist from unauthorised commentary and to actively counter misinformation in line with the movement’s discipline.

Reaffirming its political position, the caucus said Senator Kwankwaso and the entire Kwankwasiyya Movement remain firmly within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

It emphasised that no directive, approval or encouragement had been given to any person or group to agitate for defection, adding that any future political or strategic decision would only be formally communicated through recognised leadership structures and by the movement’s leader.

On the lingering leadership crisis within the NNPP in Kano, the caucus noted the recent dissolution of the party’s state, local government and ward executives by the party’s National Working Committee.

It resolved that there was currently no recognised NNPP leadership structure at any level in Kano State, stressing that no individual or group was authorised to speak or act on behalf of the party pending further directives from the party’s national organs and the Kwankwasiyya leadership.

The caucus also called on members of the movement to remain calm, disciplined and focused, while avoiding rumours, speculation and unauthorised media engagements to safeguard unity and internal cohesion.
